New Orleans Marsh Fire

New Orleans Marsh Fire

Late last night my wife and I smelled smoke. Sure enough, outside, the entire neighborhood was covered in a haze of smoke that smelled like burning plastic.

With a flashlight I looked all over the outside of the house and the neighbors house but couldn't find anything. Others were up investigating as well (it was 1:30 in the morning and the smoke woke several folks out of bed).

Turns out it was a giant marsh fire in New Orleans East (over 10 miles from where I live in New Orleans).

Depending on the wind, you can either barely smell it, or it's so think you see the smoke inside your house. It's totally crazy and really hard for normal people to breathe let alone people with respiratory problems.

The mayor said the fire is bigger than City Park (the largest urban park in the US) and it can be seen from space.

It's totally crazy but they don't seem to have any way to put it out except to hope for rain.

Earthquakes, hurricanes, and now marsh fires. Jeepers.
